HTC U13 Release, News, Concept, Features and Rumour Roundup
The Taiwanese tech giant unveiled the HTC U12+ flagship in May 2018 with many awesome features and refinements over U11. The upcoming flagship from HTC is already under development, according to leaks. HTC is expected to release the next flagship under the name U13 or U13+ in May 2019.
In HTC U12+, the company made many remarkable design changes as well as UI changes, so we expect the next flagship will feature the same design as that of U12+ with minor refinements but may feature new Pie-based sense interface. The flagship might be powered by Snapdragon 855 chipset with 5G support and boast 8GB Ram. Now we will roundup the most anticipated features of HTC U13.

HTC U13 Display and Design
Previously, HTC designed the U12+ flagship to contain 6 inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. The Display is of SuperLCD6 technology with noteworthy improvements over LCD. Till the moment, there are signs of HTC switching to OLED tech, so we expect the successor of U12 will also feature the same Super LCD Display. But the Taiwanese tech giant may increase the display size to 6.2 inch in the U13 flagship, as rivals like Samsung, Sony and Apple are going to release flagships with above 6 inch display sizes. Most likely, the bezel size is reduced further in the next flagship from HTC, so that the screen to body ratio may reach up to 85%. The flagship will be water proof and dust proof and also feature HTC Edge sense.
HTC ditched 3.5mm jack in U12, so we shouldn’t look for one in U13, but the company may supply USB type-C to 3.5mm adaptor in the box.
Chipset and Ram
The Chipmaker Qualcomm began the development of SD 855 chipset a long time ago and the development is nearly completed, thus, SD855 will make its debut in December 2018. Some leaks from Winfuture claim that the name has been changed to Snapdragon 8150 with internal codename Hana, a few months ago. According to some leaks, Qualcomm has sent the early samples of SD855 or 8150 to many tech giants including HTC. Leaked benchmarks of SD855 or 8150 pointed towards massive performance improvements over its predecessor due to 7nm process, increased clockspeed and dedicated NPU.
The chipset contains X24 LTE modem which support download speeds up to 2Gbps theoretically, but might be combined with X50 modem externally to support 5G networks. Because of being built on 7nm process, the chipset offers great performance and also battery efficiency. The leaked benchmarks suggest that the flagships powered by SD855 or 8150 will compete even with Apple iPhone Xs. So HTC U13 will be snappier in performance and also offer fluid like experience. Because of Android Pie’s AI features and dedicated NPU of the chipset, the flagship will be more user-friendly and also offer increased Camera speed. Minutiae of the next flagship chipset from Qualcomm will be revealed at the launch event in December.
The forthcoming flagship from HTC may boast 8GB Ram to facilitate faster processing and to reach ever increasing Ram needs. The variant with 128GB storage may contain 8GB Ram while the variant with 64GB storage contains 6GB Ram similar to U12. Confirmed details about Ram and storage variants of U13 will be revealed in coming months.
The HTC U12 features Dual camera setup of 16MP + 12MP on the rear side and 8MP + 8MP setup on the front side. After a long time, HTC again started the implementation of dual sensor setup in its flagships. So we will see the U13 flagship most likely with the same Dual Camera sensor setup on both rear and front sides. The camera on the rear side supports Optical Zoom, Optical Image Stabilization and Portrait mode features. Combined with Dual LED flash, HDR mode and Laser autofocus features, users can take amazing quality pictures in both day light and night time. Because of the dedicated NPU and Pie’s camera refinements, the quality and processing speed will be improved in U13 over its predecessor.
Price and Availability
HTC U13 flagship may come with the similar price tag that of U12, but this time HTC may release an exclusive 256GB internal memory variant with the price around $1000. The flagship may hit shelves in June 2019 but pre-orders may begin in late-May 2019. Confirmed details about the Price and availability of HTC U13 will be revealed in coming months.
Update on 27/11/2018 :
According to some latest rumours through various sources, the Taiwanese tech giant is not going to develop a new flagship after all. HTC recently released the finanicial report of Q3, reporting massive losses. The HTC U12+ flagship doesn’t get much attention as it deserves. So it seems that the company has decided to stop developing another flagship and concentrate on mid-tier smartphones for the upcoming year. However, full details about whether the HTC U13 flagship exists or not, will be revealed in coming days.
