Unlocked Moto Z devices are getting Android 8.0 Oreo in the US

Finally, Motorola has begun the rollout of the Android 8.0 Oreo update for unlocked Moto Z users in the US. Earlier this month, some users in the US, reported that they are getting the Oreo update, but the rollout only for limited users. Now the full scale rollout of Oreo for unlocked Moto Z devices has begun.

The Size of the update is about 1.4 GB and requires atleast 50 percent battery to install without hiccups. The version number is OP27.76-51 and the install may take upto 30 mins, according to Motorola. The user can search for update manually by going into Settings > About phone > Software update > Check for updates.

The update contains all major features of stock Android Oreo like Picture in Picture mode, restrictions for app background processes, revamped notifications, Notification dots on the home screen and many more. Additional bug fixes and latest security patches are also included in the update.

Moto Z was released back in September, 2016, powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset, with pre-loaded Android Marshmallow and received Android 7.1.1 Nougat. So the Oreo update might be the last major update for Moto Z devices. After updating to Nougat, some users reported bad battery life. But it seems that the battery life will be improved, after the Oreo update, because of optimizations and bug fixes.
